It Is Always "Show Time" At Work

As we show up to work, we have to be ready to perform our tasks with a good amount of confidence which stems from the amount of preparation we have. We have to view our performance on the job like a performance on stage. It is “Show Time” when we are at work and we should put our best performance forward. It is definitely not the time we should be practicing our craft and rehearsing the procedures in hoping that we will do okay. We should study, practice, rehearse, and role-play the company policies and procedures on our own time. We should minimize our mistakes and never have to compromise our service to others due to our unwillingness and/or laziness in ensuring sufficient preparation. We should always be our own highest critics and evaluate our performances every day we are working so that we can improve on our weaknesses and make them our strengths.

Weaknesses may consist of tardiness, disorganization, forgetfulness, bad handwriting, negative attitude, gossiping, and laziness, just to name a few. How much we get paid on the job should not be an issue. Doing the job right is a personal obligation we want to provide and should not be driven by how much we get paid. In fact, if we are ever underpaid, then we should be able to demonstrate our superior performance to our bosses at all times. This way, when it comes to the time for us to ask for a raise and/or promotion, we would have something concrete and worthy to show as well as to make a new proposal of an ideal pay rate.

Feeling incompetent and overwhelmed at times, especially when we start a new position/job, is to be expected and should be understood. However, if we are true leaders in our own right, we will never allow this kind of stress to interfere with our need to focus and to learn the company rules and procedures expediently. We would have enough tenacity and volition to want to do a good job simply because we are proud of who we are and what we are capable of. This is when we possess an entrepreneurial spirit to strive for the company goal with a sense of purpose and devotion. We simply cannot skip this very important process in learning any new knowledge and/or skills that are required of us and to be able to perform up to company standards and feel proud within ourselves of a job well done.

Regardless of our personal or family problems, whether they are relationship, health, financial, child raising, bereavement or other problems, we cannot let them affect our performance on the job. Most of us can always try harder to be more focused on the job and put our personal problems aside so that we can continue to keep our performance level high. It is definitely not a favor we give to our employers but a pledge we have agreed to fulfill each day we go to work even with stressful life occurrences.

It is always “Show Time” when coming to work. We rehearse before and after, but we always perform when we are at work.
